GogglePlayer privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-03

GogglePlayer is a Windows desktop application distributed on the Microsoft Store. Local playback and device discovery happen on your local network; the app does not collect, transmit, or store personal data on any external server.

Who we are

GogglePlayer is published by PPK Software, which is the data controller for any data handled through the app. Questions about this policy or about data handling should go to support@goggleplayer.app.

GogglePlayer is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by DJI. The DJI name is used only to describe device compatibility.

What GogglePlayer stores on your device

GogglePlayer keeps a small amount of information locally under %LocalAppData%\Packages\PPKSoftware.GogglePlayer_ymyv6xvjharra\LocalCache\Roaming\GogglePlayer\ (the per-app data folder Windows assigns to apps installed from the Microsoft Store):

  • Settings (window position, theme, audio calibration, codec preferences, hardware encoder choice, resume positions, recent files, optional queue state) in settings.json.
  • Log files at logs/goggleplayer-YYYY-MM-DD.log. Rolling daily, kept for 7 days, then deleted automatically. If the app crashes or stops responding, it also writes a report file in the same folder (crash-*.txt, hang-*.txt) and, for a hang, a memory snapshot of the app under logs/dumps/. These stay on your computer for you to inspect or send by hand; the app never uploads them.
  • Backup of a corrupt settings file, if the app ever fails to read your settings. Named settings.json.<timestamp>.bad.
  • Temporary shifted subtitles under %TEMP%\GogglePlayer\srt-shifted\ when you use the subtitle offset feature. Cleaned up automatically after 30 days.
  • Downloaded video cache under %TEMP%\GogglePlayer\url-cache\ when the optional URL feature is used. Files are cleaned up automatically after 7 days.
  • Converted video cache under %TEMP%\GogglePlayer\transcode-cache\ and %TEMP%\GogglePlayer\remux-cache\. When the Local audio output needs a file in a different format, GogglePlayer writes a converted or repackaged copy of the video here so it can seek and stay in sync. Files are cleaned up automatically after 7 days.

These files stay on your machine. They are never uploaded, synced, or read remotely. You can view them at any time and delete them freely.

What GogglePlayer does on the network

  • Broadcasts SSDP messages on your local network to discover DLNA renderers (the same protocol Windows File Explorer uses for the Network view).
  • Opens an HTTP server bound to your local network IP (not the public internet) on port 9999 (or the next free port). The URL includes a random 128-bit token that only the selected renderer is told about, so other devices on the LAN cannot guess the URL.
  • Sends UPnP SOAP commands (SetAVTransportURI, Play, Pause, Seek, volume) to the renderer you choose.
  • Desktop capture: when you use the Capture tab to stream a monitor, GogglePlayer reads pixels from the selected screen and captures the system audio playing on the Windows default output device (unless you mute it), and sends both to the chosen renderer on your local network. With the Local audio output, the captured audio plays on a local device you pick instead. Nothing is recorded to disk and nothing leaves your local network.
  • Watches for Windows network change events to re-run DLNA discovery when you reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  • Optional URL feature: when you paste a video URL, GogglePlayer launches yt-dlp to fetch the file. yt-dlp is a separate tool that you install yourself; it connects to the remote site and writes the downloaded file to the local cache, and GogglePlayer then plays the local file. The URL tab is hidden until yt-dlp is detected and explicitly approved in Settings.

What GogglePlayer does not do

  • No outbound internet traffic for local playback or device discovery. Outbound traffic occurs only through the optional URL feature described above, which is opt-in and delegated to yt-dlp, and through the Microsoft Store update check below.
  • No analytics, telemetry, advertising identifiers, or third-party trackers.
  • No crash reporting back to us.
  • No update server of our own. Once per launch the app asks the Microsoft Store whether a newer version exists, the same question the Store app asks, so it can tell you. Nothing is sent to us. Updates are delivered through the Microsoft Store.
  • No account, sign-in, or cloud sync.

Bug reports and diagnostics

The app has a Report a problem action in Settings. When you click it, the app copies a short diagnostic summary to your clipboard and opens your log folder in Explorer. Nothing is uploaded automatically. You decide what to share, and with whom, by pasting or attaching manually.

The diagnostic summary is redacted before it reaches the clipboard:

  • Full file paths are reduced to the filename only, so directory structure and drive letters are not shared.
  • Local IP addresses in error messages have the last octet masked.
  • The DLNA device identifier (UDN) is replaced with a short non-reversible hash.
  • The log folder path is shown as a placeholder, not as a user-specific absolute path.

The rolling log file on disk is more detailed and is intended for local debugging. If you attach a log file to a bug report, that is a manual choice on your part.

Your rights

Because GogglePlayer does not transmit or store your data on any server we control, there is no remote account or remote copy of your data to access, correct, port, or delete. All data the app generates lives in the per-app folder shown above on your own machine. You can inspect it, export it, or delete the folder at any time, and the app will start fresh the next time you run it.

If you email support, your email address is used only to reply to your request and is not added to any marketing list.

This website

This site (goggleplayer.app) is served through Cloudflare's edge network. Standard request metadata (your IP address, user agent, timestamp) is processed by Cloudflare as part of delivering and protecting the site. Their handling is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.

We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics on this site. The only browser storage used is a single localStorage entry that remembers your theme preference (light, dark, or system).

Microsoft Store

Distribution, purchases, and updates are handled by the Microsoft Store. Those interactions are subject to the Microsoft privacy statement. We receive aggregate sales and crash-free-rate data from Partner Center, which does not include personal information about individual buyers.

Changes to this policy

This policy may change as the app evolves. The current version always lives at goggleplayer.app/privacy with an updated date at the top. Material changes will bump that date.
